Tongkat Ali Extract – Malaysia’s National Treasure
What is Tongkat Ali?
Tongkat Ali, also known as Eurycoma longifolia Jack, is an herbal medicinal plant found in South East Asia (Malaysia, Vietnam, Java, Sumatra, Thailand). Tongkat Ali has a range of medicinal properties as a general health tonic, including improvement in physical and mental energy levels and overall quality of life.
The roots of tongkat ali, often called “Malaysian ginseng”, are used as an adaptogen and as a traditional “anti-aging” remedy to help older individuals adapt to the reduced energy, and mood that often comes with age.
How To Identify A Good Quality Tongkat Ali?
Numerous commercial tongkat ali supplements claim “extract ratios” from 1:20 to 1:200 without any information about bioactive constituents, extraction methodology.
It is known that young tongkat ali trees have less active components than mature ones. Also, certain extraction methods damage the active components more than others. Because of this, the difference in effectiveness between different brands and between batches of the same brand can be very obvious. Therefore a 200:1 tongkat ali extract obtained from poor quality raw material and suboptimal extraction method can be in fact less effective than a 50:1 tongkat ali extract obtained from high quality raw material with a modern extraction method.
Tongkat Ali should be judged by the presence of the active component known as Eurycomanone, which can be identified and quantified by a lab technique called HPLC. High quality tongkat ali extract contains anywhere between 0.8-1.5% Eurycomanone content. By measuring Eurycomanone, you are guaranteed to get the real thing.
KSM-66™ Ashwagandha Extract
Ashwagandha is one of the most popular Indian botanical plants which has been used in Ayurveda – the 5000-year-old Indian system of medicine, as a rejuvenative, and a daily tonic for many centuries. Ashwagandha embodies the very essence of a preventative and curative approach to health in Ayurveda.
Ashwagandha contains many useful phytochemical constituents, including steroidal lactones such as withanolides, alkaloids, flavonoids, fatty acids, choline, and amino acids. These key phytochemical constituents of Ashwagandha endow it with its unique medicinal properties and makes it extremely beneficial to the consumer and progressively affects various systems in our body. Withanolides are an essential set of the key bioactive components of Ashwagandha.
KSM-66™ Organic Ashwagandha Extract is a premium, full-spectrum extract produced using a unique proprietary extraction process without using alcohol or any other chemical solvent. KSM-66™ is standardized to contain at least 5% withanolides.
KSM-66™ Boosts Muscle Strength & Recovery
Traditional Ayurveda advocates the use of ashwagandha for “bala” or physical strength. Ashwagandha has been used for millennia for a range of health benefits via effects on the nervous system, endocrine system and cardiopulmonary system.
In an eight-week, randomized, prospective, placebo-controlled, double-blind study, 57 men (ages 18 to 50 years old) with little experience in resistance training were randomized into treatment and placebo groups. Subjects received 300 mg of ashwagandha root extract (as KSM-66™ Ashwagandha) twice daily or a placebo.
Researchers concluded that Ashwagandha supplementation is associated with significant increases in muscle mass and strength. This makes it a useful adjunct to a resistance training program, as it may impact both muscle development and muscle recovery.
